Twice As: Be Inspired, or Be the Inspiration

There’s people twice our age ,twice as busy and injured, half our strength, flexibility and talent. Every class we watch as the person half our size buried beneath their partner is making it happen. The person with 3 jobs and 5 kids making the time to train. There’s always someone dealing with and overcoming some form of “twice as” in their training. This should inspire us to rise up and through our own adversity, but sometimes we don’t let it. Sometimes we can’t shake the self-sabotaging feeling that our situation is somehow uniquely different and insurmountable.

Our challenge then? If we can’t shake that feeling of being special, then why not be the first? If we’re feeling special in our excuses, can’t we be special in our overcoming them?

Can we lead the people that are twice our strength but not feeling strong enough?

Can we lead our younger teammates that are feeling too old?

Can we inspire people twice our size that still feel too small?

When we’re having trouble being inspired by the millions that have come before us that overcome twice our obstacles, then why can’t we be the one to inspire others that may be struggling along their path? We can reframe our thinking from our failed “if they can do it, why can’t I?” to “if i can do it, why can’t they?”

Part of maintaining the path is doing the best we can with what we have. But regardless of what we have, we always have the option to lead by example. Whatever design we have for our training can be an inspiration for others. Before we say “damn I’m old” watch the partner twice our age get their rolls in.. Be inspired, or be the inspiration.
